What no one, including himself seemed to realize was just how much power Brody actually had over not only Brock but the entire family. He rarely spoke up and said anything but when he told everyone to stop arguing, there wasn’t much discussion further. Brody had no doubt that Brock was going to stew on it a little longer and later come back with an offer for Glory but even Brody was hesitant to let Glory go. It was probably mostly because he looked at her as his little sister still, he didn’t see Glory as a twenty two year old young woman, instead he saw her as his twelve year old little sister that used to follow them around everywhere they went, tagging along to try and keep up with her brothers. Maybe eventually he would change that image but even right now he wasn’t even able to completely understand it.

He was unphased when Alex said no and clung to Adi, the boy had come a long way to open up to Brody but he still had his preference, something Brody had long ago been okay with. He gave Adi a reassuring smile to let her know he wasn’t upset about it, no one would take it as being rude but she had a son to raise so he didn’t stop her from correcting him. There was no hiding how well she was raising Alex, even as a single mother, he wasn’t going to interfere with that. He grabbed his own bread and began dipping it into the stew, taking a bite as his father began asking Adi about her work. She was shy but way better at talking to people than Ash was, probably something his parents had picked up on right away so they set their sights on Adi first but he had no doubt eventually they would turn their attention to Ash soon.

He laughed as Brock rattled off in their childhood secret language and responded easily, laughing at how easy it was to remember. Looking over at Glory as she snipped about hating it and dropped the F-bomb, quickly getting a glare from everyone, if Alex hadn’t been there, no one would have cared but little ears were very likely to pick up and repeat words that she said. He let out a laugh and shook his head to recover and shrugged, looking at Brock, they may speak in a secret language out loud but as twins, they shared a different language anyway, they always had. When Brock was in his accident, Brody had a killer head ache right before the call and he’d felt immediately unsettled, the phone call he’d gotten that night confirmed what was going on. Brock rolled his eyes and nodded before picking up his fork and going for his stew. Brody looked at Glory with a smile. Sis, just add ung after each letter except for vowels that get nothing and for some reason the letter c get hung after it. Sung e e? Nothing to it. He said with a shrug.

Then it was time, his mother turned to Ash and smiled gently. How did you and Brock meet? It was actually only the second girl his parents had actually met a girl of Brock’s. Mostly because he never talked about them, although maybe she was the first because Hennessy didn’t really count.

❝ fill with fire, exhale desire ❞
Ash was happy to sit there quietly and disappear into the background as everyone talked and settled into a normal type of dinner conversation. But of course, as if life hadn't proven it enough already, her luck was not to continue and after the minor tantrum from Glory, Brock's mother turned to her and Ash felt her stomach tighten slightly. She didn't want to talk about her and Brock, she didn't want to questions about the baby to come up and get stuck revealing they were having twins. In fact she would have been perfectly happy going through the rest of her pregnancy without talking about it. She certainly didn't want to discuss her work with his parents, but she had a feeling that was going to become unavoidable.

Her name and face had been all over the news a little over a year ago though. First when she took down the human trafficker. Later when they drug her into court to testify against him. Then a final time when they tried to strip her of her badge completely using the excuse that she was reckless and had gone rogue while undercover. Without Brock's help she likely would have lost her badge. No one had gotten hurt of course, but Ash's jacket read like something out of a book or movie. Just the type of hothead cop everyone worried would completely lose it one day and get a bunch of people killed. In Ash's case she might lose it eventually, but the only person she'd allowed to be killed one her watch was herself.

"I answered a noise complaint." She said finally and shrugged. Brock had been an asshole, of course, but she'd been trying to behave herself some since she was on the verge of losing her badge. Then of course she'd run into him at the bar. Then he'd happened to see her trying to take down limbs from a tree all on her own. Life had just continued forcing them to meet until they'd given up and just let it happen. Of course, the whole dating thing wasn't supposed to happen. He wasn't supposed to develop feelings. They weren't supposed to be having kids together. But Ash was just going with the flow of life those days. whatever the fuck it wanted to throw at her.

there goes my hero

watch him as he goes
He knew eventually they were going to start asking questions to Ash, he knew his family too well and once they were done pestering everyone else, they would set their targets on Ash. He wasn’t going to let them bully her around into feeling uncomfortable but he knew Ash could handle herself. They were both dying to get the hell out of there, they had much more entertaining things they could be doing other than sitting there pretending to be social. Finally though, his mother turned to Ash, asking how they met. At least it seemed like a simple enough question, knowing Ash she could give a simple answer and no room for more questions.

He couldn’t help but feel his lips give a little tug at the memory of her coming to his place, looking up he ended up breaking into a slight grin. Yeah and she wouldn’t put on a hard hat, one of the other guys got a little too aggressive and she went all karate chop on them. Dropped the guy to the floor. He chuckled as he finally picked up his fork and dug into the stew. He always questioned how to eat stew, did you use a fork and slurp the liquid, or use a spoon and fumble with getting the bigger pieces. Either way he intended on soaking up the rest of the liquid with his last piece of bread. He let himself get engrossed into his stew, not bothering to acknowledge the quietness as they waited for him to elaborate more.

He finally sighed, looking over at his mother and father then his eyes went to Brody who motioned towards his parents with his head, widening his eyes. He knew what he wanted Brock to tell their parents, he just wasn’t about to explain to Brody it was a bigger deal than what even he thought. Finally he looked down, stabbing his fork into a piece of meat. Okay, Yes, Ash is pregnant. He took a bite of the meat, glaring at his brother. Happy? Brody grinned and nodded. Yep! His parents took in a happy gasp, his mother clearly over the moon excited as she jumped up and hurried across the table and threw her arms around Brock from behind. Oh son! I never thought I’d see the day, I’m so happy! Without missing a beat she went to Ash, putting her arms around her and giving Brock a quick kiss on the cheek before kissing Ash on the cheek and patting her shoulder quickly. Ugh! So many grandkids! Maybe we should move out here! No! Brock barked quickly before looking up hesitantly but his mother and father stared and then laughed.

to think you would get me to the altar
Glory rolled her eyes and huffed, more just playing the annoyed little sister role than actually irritated with Brody. Brock definitely got under her skin but of course, that was Brock and he was an asshole to everyone. She never had any doubts on who she would call if she was in trouble though. Both of her brothers, instantly. Whoever picked up first would be who she talked to but then they would call one another and both show up like two halves of the same person. It was comforting, although she hadn't taken all those boxing classes for nothing. She might have been short compared to her brothers but she wasn't short compared to many. At five-foot-ten she was actually reasonably tall. Her thin willowy stature didn't count for much either since she actually hd some training on how to throw her weight around to make a difference. Still, she would rather have backup. The Hemmingways might fight but they would never leave one of their own without backup.

Unless it was in an awkward situation with one trying to get the other to inform the parents of something. As she was watching Brody to to Brock in that moment. Ducking her head, trying to hide her grin while she waited for Brock to spill the beans. Finally he said it out loud and Glory had to bite back a laugh when their mother erupted in excitement next to her. Watching as their mom got up and rushed around to embrace her son and then Ash. If Brock's awkwardness hadn't been enough for Glory's amusement, Ash's definitely was. The irritable blonde looked like she wanted to murder someone, and Glory was just hoping that she didn't have any weapons on her.

Then their mom made the fatal mistake of suggesting they move there and Glory couldn't stop herself from laughing when Brock immediately rejected the idea. The fact was that Glory would have loved to have her parents closer, but there was no doubt that her brothers wouldn't. Especially with having their ladies around. No doubt their parents would end up pestering the hell out of Adira, not even in a mean way, and then Ash would probably just take off and leave if if they move there. "Don't worry momma, you can move in with me whenever I have kids," she said with a huge grin. "It'll be great having someone to help babysit." Not that she'd be short on options for help with a kid anyways. "You'll just have to come visit us here on birthdays and holidays and all that. It'll be great!"

To Brody and Brock, the biggest threat Glory should have in her life was them. She took boxing classes and could hold her own against them, not that they would ever hit her or even attempt to, but they were the size of the people she needed to be prepared to go up against. She wasn’t short by any means but a female body could only hold up so much compared to a male’s body, it’s just how men and women were hardwired. If Glory could defend herself against guys the size and strength of Brock and Brody then she was in good shape. In fact, she was probably one of the few women that wouldn’t be intimidated by the size of a guy because she had two brothers who were tall. Not to mention she had the attitude to back up her right hook, most of which she grew up needing when it came to holding her own against her brothers. She may not even notice it but her brothers were the exact thing that shaped her into who she was today, she didn’t really get much handed to her like people assumed. She wanted a new house that they could easily build her in a few months but they didn’t do it because they didn’t believe she was ready. It was weird for Brody to agree with his brother but he did in this instance, for now. Eventually he would work on Brock and maybe even before Ash had her baby. Time would tell.

He shot Brock a look and he finally announced the obvious, Ash was pregnant. Mostly Brody was being a sneak because he knew his mother was going to go ape shit and she did just that. Brody shielded his face away as his mom went to Ash, pretty sure he could feel the tension rising in the room as she hugged Ash and Brock. Brock put up with it but Ash didn’t have to, luckily for his mom, Brody knew from experience that Brock would protect his mother should Ash decide enough was enough. He wouldn’t hurt Ash but he’d seen him put her in a choke hold before when Ash got too handsy with Glory, now Ash was pregnant and the danger was higher but everyone knew, it was the only way to really get through to Ash.

Brody turned to Adira and Alex, giving Adi a smile. Aren’t you glad I told them over the phone? You could have gotten the same awkward attack of love. He said with a laugh. He nodded in agreement with Glory. Yeah, I think visits… planned visits would be nice, I repeat, planned visits. Sadly out of all of us, Adi and Ash are the only two that really hold a job so we can’t disturb their work schedule. The last statement earned him a hard look from Brock, of course the boys worked but it wasn’t the same, if they didn’t go to work one day it wasn’t going to cost them their jobs or ruin anything, they had flexibility that Adi and Ash did not.

❝ fill with fire, exhale desire ❞
The hug was awkward, knowing that she was having two not just one baby was even more awkward. Not saying that they were having twins felt like even more of a lie than anything else that evening and Ash just bit her lip to hold it in. She didn't want to know how they were all going to react. Not only did no one in the room know but Brock, she had no doubt that everyone was going to lose their shit over it all and be insanely excited for absolutely no reason. She wasn't excited about two babies. She was terrified. One child had been scary enough for her to cope with but having two? She didn't want to think about how crazy that was going to be. Especially if the babies came out with an actual mixture of her personality with Brock's, it was going to be insane.

Ash just kept her mouth shut. Until Brody mentioned she and Adira were the only ones with jobs and cleared her throat. "Don't worry about me. Plan your visits, I'm just going to be working anyways." She would be too, although with them planning it she'd probably find a way to stick herself on the schedule more. Tell Austin and Ryan to spend some extra time with their children. It wasn't like she and Brock were getting married, and she definitely didn't need to be around for her children to get to know their grandkids. She could happily be at work protecting everyone and enjoying the peace and quiet, with occasional chaos, that came with her job. Was it a horrible thought? Probably. But if it kept Brock's mother from ever hugging her again it would be worth it.

Ash poked at her food, not really hungry even though it was good. She just wanted to go to work, she wanted to be able to do what she normally did at work. She was lucky she'd even been able to hold off long enough that she was able to help find and save Lacey. Austin definitely wasn't going to be letting her out of the office again. It was both a blessing and a curse to be working with someone she was so close to. But he and Ryan were just two more people she needed to tell about the fact she was having twins. She was already tired of the news and she had yet to tell anyone at all anyways. Fed up with it and emotionally over the chaos she didn't think twice when she opened up her mouth, "we're actually having twins," just blurting it out, staring down at her bowl.

He had no doubt that Ash was going to be finding ways to keep herself as busy as possible during the next visit from his parents but that’s why Brody emphasized that the visits be planned. Brock gave a glare at Glory too, it was after all, her fault their parents were even there right now. The boys hadn’t called, it was all on Glory this time and they had not have any warning of their arrival, otherwise Brock would have disappeared, maybe next time he could get his jet and have Ash and him magically take off to somewhere far away, like Spain. They can spend the time away from his parents and spend their time getting naked as often as possible. Spending that much time together might make them want to kill each other but at least they didn’t have his parents hovering around them.

He was glad the news was out at least, now he wasn’t sure at which point they would break the news about expecting twins. It was all Ash’s fault, he would always point that out to her. He didn’t want kids but she did so he agreed and now look where they were. He wasn’t a father kind of guy, that was Brody’s gig, he was an asshole, he hated people, he wasn’t even sure he liked babies and now he was supposed to love two babies he hasn’t even met yet? How was it even possible? What if they didn’t like him? He couldn’t honestly blame the kids if they hated him, he hated himself most days and he could name on one hand how many people liked him.

He looked over at Ash as she finally blurted it out and silence fell around the table. That drew a smile to Brock’s lips as he looked down at his bowl and ate a few bites, wearing a shit eating grin. Tw..twins? Brody finally broke the silence and Brock looked over at him. Yep. Twins. Don’t know the genders yet but soon. He looked around the table and then back at Ash. Welp, that’s about all we have going on. Looking to his parents. It was great catching up but we have nothing new to share so, Looking back to Ash. Ash if you are ready? I know I am.

Glory was enjoying watching all the nonsense going down. That was until Ash blurted out that they were having twins. She was stunned. her parents were stunned. Adira and Brody were stunned. Twins? From Brock and Ash? Glory wanted to make World War III jokes. Hell she wanted to make jokes about a Hemmingway ruling the world, or being some evil super villain. Something told her that those types of jokes would not be appreciated though, particularly since Ash was a cop. She didn't want to push her luck and so she stayed quiet.

Brody was the first to speak and Glory, knowing then that he was unable to have children of his own, felt a little bad for him. He was having a child with Adira, but five people in the room knew that it wasn't really Brody's sperm. It was his child, but at the same time it wasn't directly. Then there was Brock who Glory still didn't believe actually wanted children... and he was getting twins. Hell, Glory was a little angry at him for it. A baby she had been prepared to accept but twins? Adira and Brody had wanted a child so hard they'd had to fight Brock for it. Ash and Brock were just magically having twins.

"Wait, really? You're just going to drop a bomb like that on us and then walk out? You're having twins? Jesus Brock," of course he would just walk out, it wasn't like he was super connected with the family. Brody wasn't either but he was better than Brock was by far. Glory was obviously the closest to their parents. But still, she could hardly believe that he was having twins and just felt it appropriate to leave?

He honestly didn’t even think about it affecting Brody when Ash told them about them having twins. They were twins, it was bound to be a possibility and it could have happen with Adira too but it didn’t. He didn’t ask for twins, he didn’t ask for one baby but it happened and he knew it was happening. He could have said no, he could have left her to get pregnant with another man but then no matter what way it happened, Brock would look like the ass that left Ash and got her pregnant. If she left him and got pregnant quickly it would look like it was actually Brock’s and chances were, he would want to be back with Ash anyway, mine as well make it easier on everyone and have the baby be his. He just had no idea it would end up being twins.

He didn’t expect Glory to get angry but when she did he stopped and looked across the table at her. What? Shock and Awe. He said with a grin but then shrugged. I don’t know why you’re so upset. His eyes went around the table and then paused on Brody and he did a double take. Oh. He said without even thinking before he looked at Ash, Brody. Brody couldn’t have kids but he was having one that wasn’t actually his kid. He knew how Brody felt about it and then he regretted not telling Brody by himself, looking back to Brody. I’m sorry, I should have told you. But Brody shrugged it off, not saying anything and turned his attention to his food. That action coming from Brock would have meant nothing but from Brody it meant a lot of things.

Brock dropped his eyes, falling quiet for a second before looking over at Ash, not even sure what to say, his hand finding her leg under the table. He’d never meant to hurt his brother but for the first time, he was pretty sure he just did. He’d managed to take Brody’s pain away when it came to not being able to have kids, giving his Brody literally everything he could to ensure he kept Brody happy but right now he couldn’t fix this. It’s not like he could just give the babies back and he couldn’t just never have kids either just because his brother couldn’t. He gave his brother his sperm for Christ’s sake, how much more did he have to give Brody? He actually owed his brother nothing but yet part of him was still upset anyway. He loved his brother and would do anything to keep him happy but he couldn’t fix it this time, he didn’t know what to do.

Finally Brock’s mom cleared her throat and smiled. Well it sounds like we are missing something here but I am excited and very happy. If you two want to go that’s fine but I made cherry cheesecake, although I forgot it in the cooler in the car. Suddenly both boys’ heads popped up and looked at each other. Brody the firs to speak. Don’t you dare! I will cut you. Gotta catch me first. Suddenly the chairs were moving and the two oversized kids were pushing and shoving to get out to the car. After a second their mother stood up as they went out the door and she smiled, walking to the kitchen. Ladies, a secret… She said as she came back in with the cheesecake in hand, quietly setting it on the table before walking over to the front door and locking it. Momma is always smarter. She said with a laugh as she went back to the table. Let them figure their stuff out, anyone want cheesecake? She said cheerfully as she stood over the table with a knife.

Ash hadn't really thought about how Brody or Adi would feel about it. Hell, Adi already had one kid. She hadn't thought about Brody because she was too busy thinking about herself and Brock. One child was one thing but she'd not been prepared for two, nor had she wanted to. Whatever had happened, it seemed her body had just decided that she was destined to be fucked over on everything she did. Ash didn't know about any twins in her family history and her doctor had already explained that they wouldn't be identical twins. They wouldn't be like Brock and Brody. They were two separate eggs not the same one. This was just pure fucking luck, or bad luck depending on how you looked at it.

Brody's face said it all though and she instantly felt bad about it, Glory pissing her off when she opened her mouth to speak. Ash didn't dare say anything to her about it though. She wanted to but she couldn't do it, not with the parents there. Bad enough she'd pulled a gun on them before, no reason for them to know she'd threatened their daughter as well previously. So she kept quiet and poked at her dinner, not wanting to drop the bomb and then just leave. She would have felt too awkward doing that, surprisingly enough.

She was still quiet when his mother mentioned cheesecake and the two men took off out of the house like oversized children. "I didn't even know he could move that fast," she mused as she scooted her chair back from the table some. She was ready to go but forcing herself to stay at the table. managing a genuine grin when his mother came back with a cheesecake and shook her head slightly. "Oh they'll be fine," Adira said quietly, Alex staring intently at the cheesecake. Ash glanced over at them, jealous of how easy Adira was with her son, wondering if she could ever be like that. Also jealous that Adira looked completely natural while pregnant, Ash already was feeling like her body wasn't her own and she wasn't even halfway through yet. "I'm sure they'll work it out," she agreed quietly. She and Brock struggled to work things out but surely with Brody he had a system. Surely he would know how. "I'll go check on them, keep them out until it's done," she said and rose to her feet.

He should have thought of his brother, it was probably the first time that he hadn’t actually thought of his brother first. He had to stop at some point and worry about himself and his own relationships at some point and apparently it was when his girlfriend got pregnant. The mention of their mother’s famous cheesecake had both boys up and running though and they were shoving each other aside all the way down the front steps of the house and to the car but when they popped the trunk they grabbed the cooler and pulled it out and found the cheesecake inside. Both boys paused as Brody held the cheesecake in his hands and then looked at his brother, passing it to him. Here. You should have it. Congrats on being a father for the third time. He said a little cooler than he meant.

Brock paused, looking at his brother and peeled the cover off to see the cherries on the top with syrup, reaching in and plucking a cherry off to eat it and then sighed, leaning against the car. I’m sorry Brody but you know I’m only the father to those twins, Adi’s baby is all you. He looked over at Brody who set the cake down between them and sat on the hatch of the car, shaking his head. No Brock, it’s your child. Not mine. Brock reached over and punched his shoulder making Brody wince. Takes more than sperm to make a father Brody. I haven’t been there for Adi at all, you have, you are that child’s father. I’ve been trying to be there for Ash and I’m nowhere near as good at it as you are with Adi. It comes naturally to you. He sighed, reaching in his pocket and pulling out his pocket knife and flipped it open, looking at Brody with a smirk, Brody smiled back and nodded.

Brock leaned to the side and cut the cheesecake with his pocket knife, carefully lifting a piece out and handing it to Brody before doing the same for himself and took a bite. I should have told you and I’m sorry. I figured you wouldn’t care because you already have one on the way. Brody shook his head with a sigh and shrugged. It’s fine, I’m just surprised and I was hurt. Brock just nodded, taking another bite of his cheesecake. Think we should try to go in? Looking over to Brody who smiled. Yeah, One more piece. He was just cutting into another piece when he looked up to see Ash coming out and looked down at the ruined cheesecake and then Brody and back to Ash. Hi. He said with an innocent grin, holding the pan out. Cheesecake?

Any excuse to escape the room, and the awkward feeling she couldn't seem to escape, was a good excuse for Ash and she happily took checking on the boos. Making her way down the hall and slipping out of the front door just in time to see the two boys both with a slice of cheesecake. She'd never thought that she would ever love anyone in her life, not like she did Brock. She'd been hurt time and time again when she was young and while she had trouble telling Brock how she felt she knew without a doubt that she would sacrifice everything for him. She would give her life for his in a heartbeat. As a police officer she was bound to protect the innocent, she'd promised to, but with Brock it wasn't just her job. It was because she wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she could save his life and didn't. Unlike Austin though, if anything did happen to him she would just work. Even when he'd been in a coma she'd coped by throwing herself into her work when she wasn't with him. Every waking moment she was working harder and harder.

"No thanks," she said softly when Brock offered her the cheesecake. Walking over to them and crossing her arms, uncomfortably aware of her stomach. "Brody, I'm sorry... I didn't mean to blurt it out like that," she said quietly and sighed. "I just.... I haven't 'met the parents' since I was sixteen and this is the most uncomfortable situation I've been in in a while... I haven't even told Austin or Ryan that we're expecting twins...." she was a little worried about how Austin would react, although less worried since he had Sawyer back, and another baby on the way. They'd lost one but it was different for Austin and Hennessy than it was for Brody.

Still, Austin and Ryan were basically family. She had to think of them as family. She had to trust them with her life, and she trusted them with the lives of her children too while they were working this last case. "I've had a rough few days," she said, staring blankly at the car. "It's not much of an excuse but I'm petty messed up right now. There was a little girl who was kidnapped, we found her, got the bad guy," she held up her bandaged arm where Sarge had bitten her, "but I can't believe I'm bringing children into this world... I can't believe any of us are." She reached up and rubbed her eyes with one hand. "Sorry, I haven't entirely processed the last few days, and I got in late last night. Then your parents first thing this morning. I'm halfway tempted to just string Glory up by her thumbs and leave her like that for a few days." She was rarely open, it had to be the hormones, but she knew she could trust Brock and Brody. Hell, she'd done Brody a huge favor to get rid of Andrew for her at one point. Plus, she was still just reeling from all the craziness in her life. Austin, Sawyer, twins, Lacey. Her life had been non-stop blow after blow for a while.

there goes my hero

watch him as he goes
Brock shrugged when she said no to the cheesecake, going in for another slice before setting the pan on the hatch of his parent’s SUV. He loved Ash but it wasn’t his nature to say that he cared, hell he had trouble with even showing that he cared. A few months ago he probably wore the badge of being an asshole who was arrogant and rude. Somehow, she’d just waltzed past every road block he threw at her and she’d managed to actually like him, hell she loved him. You would think he would feel honored but that wasn’t Brock’s way. Instead he was annoyed with it, he dealt with Ash and her moodiness simply because he loved her, otherwise he’d have walked out a long time ago. Some couples were lovey dovey with nicknames, that wasn’t Ash and Brock, it never would be.

Brody looked at Ash, he was the softer one of the twins and he legitimately didn’t blame Ash for any of it but let her talk. As she paused he took a final bite of his cheesecake and unlike Brock, he actually didn’t take another bite, leaning back and watching Ash as she seemed to stare off at the car. He could tell what she was saying was a lot for Ash and even Brock paused to listen as she seemed to open up to them both. He waited until she was finished and Brody spoke up. Ash, I don’t blame you. If someone was going to tell me it was supposed to be Brock, he screwed up, I’m fine. Just caught me off guard and I overreacted, the fact that I can’t have kids shouldn’t limit you two of having kids. I owe you and Brock so much that it’s selfish for me to even think of being angry at you. Adi and I wouldn’t be happily expecting this baby if it wasn’t for both of you. Looking at Brock and then back to Ash. Ash had gotten rid of Andrew while Brock gave him the gift of life.

Alright, let’s not get weird. Ash, I’m sorry you had a bad day but the way I see it is there are some bad shits in this world but there is a lot of good too. We just don’t see those on the news and you don’t have them show up at the station either. I mean I refuse to live in fear of the bad people and if they come looking for trouble well then they meet you, Austin, Ryan, all of us here. That kidnapping was scary but you bet your ass people will think twice about coming into this town. Besides, you clearly don’t have to worry about the bad guys, you gotta watch out for those damn dogs. He said as he pulled her hand, holding the bandaged arm out. You didn’t even get hurt by the bad guy, talk about a shitty ending. He said with a grin. As for Glory, I’m totally on board with hanging her by her thumbs. We should arrange that. Brock.. Brody rolled his eyes with a sigh, shaking his head.

❝ fill with fire, exhale desire ❞
Brock knew plenty about her career but he didn't know everything and he certainly didn't know jack shit about what she'd done under the radar. She'd never told anyone what she'd done to get Andrew to back off of Ads, she'd never dare tell him about what she did to Austin's former father-in-law. Brock knew about her nightmares, but she never once told him what images they depicted. Brody either. Although Brody tried to reassure her that it wasn't her fault and Brock tried to assure her that the bad guys would always lose when they messed with her town.

Ash crossed her arms and shrugged. She always worried about the "what if" when it came to the bad guys. What if she'd been shot? What if they didn't win? What if they'd been too late and he'd hurt Lacey? Worse... what happened when one of those things finally did happen? Ash wanted a stiff drink. She wanted to get completely drunk and go curl up in a corner somewhere and just sort out her thoughts. She needed to find some peace, and instead she couldn't. She couldn't do anything.

She sighed softly and shrugged. "Brody, we weren't telling anyone yet. I shouldn't have blurted it out because we were waiting to tell everyone. This wasn't Brock's plan for how you were going to find out. This one is on me." She would shoulder the blame, but she needed to tell Austin and Ryan. She would do it the next day... before they found out from someone else. Ryan and Ash might not get along but she still respected him... even if he didn't believe that. They were family and they deserved to hear it from her. "I'm going to head home. I'm pretty tired." She'd gotten in late the night before and even though she didn't require a lot of sleep, emotionally she was pretty drained.

She stood up on her tip toes and kissed Brock's cheek, "stay as long as you want to," Ash said quietly. Brody was possibly the only person she would ever show affection like that in front of. Of course, she and Brody had gone head to head at one point when she'd left to go work while Brock had been in a coma. She loved Brock but she couldn't drop everything for him, anyone who thought she could just didn't know her. But at least Brody had gotten the message later on that she really did love his brother. With everything she had. Enough to end up putting herself in the hospital due to exhaustion. Brock had quickly become a necessary part of her life, and Ash could never pin point exactly when.

Brody just shook his head and shrugged, Brody didn’t hold grudges and he didn’t hold onto negative thoughts for very long. He was long over it. Don’t worry about it Ash, it’s fine. He didn’t care, he was happy for them, it just came as a shock but honestly, he didn’t think Adi would have enjoyed having twins and judging by how big Ash’s stomach already was, she wasn’t going to enjoy it either. Instead he was just happy that Brock was actually going to be a father, he never thought he would see the day honestly. Brock was never a father type and before Ash came out he’d said the exact same thing. Brody was the one that was supposed to have several kids running around and Brock was just supposed to be the weird Uncle. It would be interesting to see what the twins would look like seeing they were half siblings to Adi’s child. Maybe they would all look oddly similar? At least there would be some of Adi in there to help add something different.

Brock leaned down slightly as Ash stretched up to kiss him on the cheek and said she was heading home. He gave her a light nod. I’ll be over in a few minutes, go have some time to yourself. Brock was himself around his brother but yet he still wasn’t an overly lovey person. Ash understood of course and Brody oddly got it too but not many of the others did. Instead he just watched Ash head over next door and he pushed from the hatch of the car and turned to Brody. Well brother, we should head into the house and try to see about getting out of here. I don’t want to stay much longer. Brody nodded and picked up the half eaten cheesecake and they headed into the house.
