❝ fill with fire, exhale desire ❞
Ash had gotten the text to show up for dinner, and she'd considered ignoring it too. But for Brock's sake she's shown up. Unhappily. He was already over at the new house cooking, god knew why, and she went to their room first. Showering and trying on four different outfits before she finally found one she could live with. It was if the twins had decided to just make themselves known over night and where she'd been able to hide her bump most of the time looking for Lacey, until she'd literally taken her shirt off in front of Austin, she couldn't have hidden it then if she tried. Frustrated as she tried on shirt after shirt, finally giving up and just leaving herself in a simple v-neck. Her jeans didn't want to button either but Ash let them sit as low as she dared, finally getting the button done up. There was no hiding that she was pregnant, even if they could still hide the number of babies she was carrying.

"You guys are some assholes," she muttered glancing at her stomach in the mirror as she pushed her hair back from her face with a sigh. This was going to suck. Even if his parents had missed it that morning no one was going to miss it that evening. Out of habit Ash had already put her gun back on, and grabbed her badge as well. Ash wasn't used to the fact that she was expected to have a life and even though she mentally knew she couldn't do much at work anymore she couldn't stop herself from old habits of always being prepared. She headed downstairs, wishing she could grab a beer even as she turned away from the kitchen to head over to the new house. It would be odd to have Brody close by again but she was looking forward to it, for Brock's sake since it seemed like she was going to be a little nuts while pregnant. He could have someone there to fall back on for support.

Plus, Ash actually liked Adi. The other woman was everything she wasn't right down to being brunette. They were around the same height but Adi was fragile, quiet, sweet, well spoken. Ash would much rather kick a door in and let bullets fly. But Ads was definitely going to be her go-to with questions about the babies. She just didn't know if she could go to Essy, and on top of that Essy hadn't actually given birth and raised a kid. Ash was more worried about that than she was dealing with a toddler. She actually liked Alex, and they got along pretty well. He was a smart kid, and well behaved of course.

She didn't even knock on the door, just walked in. "Hey," she called, wondering if anyone other than Brock was there. she hadn't seen cars but that didn't mean they weren't around there somewhere. But she got lucky. Walking into the kitchen and finding Brock alone cooking. "Hey there," she said, feeling weird about her obvious stomach but also undeniably attracted to him. "You know, I think if we snuck off right now no one would even miss us," she said, grabbing him by his belt loops and pulling him over into her. She felt a little better after getting out for the day. Lacey was okay, she'd given the doc and Lacey's dad some leads on where to get her some help. Plus she'd had more time to actually prepare to deal with his parents. She could do it.

there goes my hero

watch him as he goes
He had been working for the entire day, making a promise to Brody that they would all have dinner in his house for the first time. His parents had taken off to do god knows what with god knows who but he didn’t care, they weren’t there and that was all he really cared about. He’s finished about two hours ago and then went through the house with a fine tooth comb, making sure the furniture was positioned perfectly, the fireplace was already going and the baby gate was surrounding the hearth, everything was kid proof and he’d made sure to go through and cleaned the house from top to bottom before he finally decided it was good and headed home.

He’d showered, shaved a bit and then headed over to Brody’s in his usual attire of jeans and a black v-neck t-shirt, although he traded his usual work boots in for a simple pair of sneakers. He ran a hand through his hair, realizing it was probably almost time for a hair cut but fuck it, next week he’d have Brody cut it. He had to take a moment to look at the large log home from the outside, it was stunning and it was something he could be pretty proud of, he had to be, it was for one of the most important people in his life. He was secretly pretty excited Brody was coming home, well, next door. It was too strange to have him so far away, he’d never admit it though but he was a terrible liar too.

He went in and began to fire up the kitchen, he’d made sure to make it beautiful just for Adi, everything was kid friendly, right down to the fold out step stool so Alex could get up and help but the counter space was plentiful and deep so she could push things back out of the reach of little hands. He had been given a ton of specs from Brody who’d gotten them from Adi and he made sure to follow them right down to the T. Finding ways to make the impossible, possible. He was just chopping some peppers and tossed them in a pot on the stove when he heard Ash’s voice, glancing over his shoulder as she walked in. Hey He reached for a towel to wipe his hands and turned around, eyes running over her and a crooked grin appeared. Heyy He said just as she was pulling him towards her, his hands going around her hips, frowning with a grin. Mmm, pretty sure they would, we are pretty much the most badass people here so.. someone has to save the party. He said as he pulled it in more, her belly being the first thing that hit him for the first time.

He wasn’t paying attention to that though, his eyes on her. You know I built these cabinets? He said with a smirk. They’re pretty sturdy, let me show you. He said before stooping down and lifting her by her legs and setting her carefully on the kitchen island, setting her on the edge as he gripped her thighs and leaned in to kiss her. There was no lack of attraction between them as her belly grew, not even a chance for her to think he was no longer attracted to her.

❝ fill with fire, exhale desire ❞
Ash had known that she would gain weight, she'd known that she would end up with a stomach and that she would look pregnant. Ash went to the gym but by no means was she crazy about it. She didn't follow a strict diet, she didn't spent hours every day working out to keep a perfect figure. She trained to be powerful, and fast, and sometimes she just trained because she needed to blow off steam before she actually snapped someone's neck. She had known when she decided that she wanted a child that she would definitely end up as a typical pregnant woman. Pregnant with twins though was certainly more than she, or Brock, had bargained for and she was showing way more than she'd anticipated for how far along she was.

"Screw the party, let's go throw our own," she murmured with a grin as he pulled her against him. Her stomach hitting him first was a little off putting but she wanted to enjoy what little bit of physical time she got with him. She might have more time now but there was not a doubt that pretty soon she would be far too big to enjoy it the way she wanted to. "Oh yeah?" She questioned him just before he lifted her up onto the counter top, grinning the entire time. Set on the edge of the counter she spread her knees, letting Brock settle himself between them as close as he could get to her. "My handsome jerk," she teased as she slid her arms over his shoulders and leaned forward to kiss him back.

Never in her life would she have imagined that was where she would be with her life. Pregnant, with a man she actually trusted. She would still probably lose it if she ever saw him with another woman touching him but she didn't really think that Brock would cheat on her. She just didn't want anyone else near her man. She loved Brock, although if anyone ever tried to call her out on it she would deny it. The fact that she could say those words to Austin was a massive step forward for her. The broken girl who'd gotten her heart broken young and then on top of that had her father and brothers who'd made things miserable. The fact she trusted any man other than Austin, who she trusted with her life, was a huge step forward. Marriage wasn't something that she was concerned about and she didn't think Brock cared either, it wasn't something that ever came up so she didn't really know. She hadn't sold her house, but nor were they really thinking about setting up two nurseries. It seemed obvious that she was just going to be living with him.

You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
Ready? Ready! Shouted Alex as Brody double checked the car seat to make sure it was tight enough and then ruffled his hair with a grin. It was definitely strange to spend so much time away from his brother, the first time in their entire lives they’d spent this much time apart but the sad part is, it was only evenings and nights. They spent all day working together like normal, only Brock ragged on him more about being late, even when he was an hour early but then Brody laughed it off, pointing out he couldn’t exactly fire him and then moved on. They were joking of course, Brock would always be hard on Brody. They were golden though, no doubt they were twins when it came down to it but Brody was definitely the funner, more loving twin while Brock was a bit more icy and hardened. You had to know him in order to see the kindness underneath his shell.

He climbed into the driver seat of his truck, it was backed up to the garage of Adi’s house with an enclosed trailer connected to the back and inside the trailer was just a few items they would be moving, mostly things of Alex’s that they didn’t want to part with. All the major furniture was newly purchased and set up in the new house. It would be the first time Adi and Alex had actually seen the inside of the house, Brody and Brock worked hard to make sure that everything Adi wanted was done to the tiniest of details, everything was safe for kids and had plenty of room for the new baby. She was only a few weeks away from her due date so it was the best time to get her settled into the new house and as she found things she needed changed or wanted done, they could quickly see to it that it was ready.

He shut his truck door and shifted the truck in gear, looking over at Adi with a grin. Ready Pretty Lady? He reached over and gave her hand a squeeze before driving the truck down the driveway and out onto the neighborhood road with the trailer in tow. It wasn’t very long before they were pulling up in front of what was now their new house, if he didn’t have the trailer connected he would have just pulled into the garage but instead he just pulled up in front of the garage door, he’d unload the trailer with Brock after dinner and get Alex settled into his new room. Doesn’t look like my parents are here yet. He said as he slid of the truck’s cab, walking around to offer a hand to Adi. Welcome home babe. He leaned in to give her a quick kiss before stepping around and getting Alex out of the back seat and carried him on his hip.

Look buddy! There’s Uncle Brock’s house and do you see what’s right in the middle? Swings! The little boy said cheerfully. The houses shared a chain link fenced yard between the properties so the kids could now go from one house to the next without ever worrying about them leaving the yard. In between the properties was a play set, sand pit and various little yard toys for Alex and soon the babies that would be filling it between the two brothers. Let’s head inside, looks like Brock is already there. He observed as he went up the porch, noticing the lights already on and just walked right in, pushing the door open and looking to the kitchen to see Brock with Ash on the counter. Sorry to interrupt but I’m pretty sure you have your own kitchen to do that in. He joked before taking a look at what Brock was wearing. Seriously?! He held out a flat palm towards Brock who was wearing the exact same outfit. Go change! No, I was wearing this first, besides your house is closer.

so keep up the laughter and rambling on.
It was strange to be moving. She'd come down to Hollis Woods to escape her ex, create a new future for herself. She'd never imagined that future would include another man in her life, or having another child. She felt a little nervous about it all like she'd wake up and it would have been a dream. Or that someone was going to pull the rug out from under her and tell her that this was all a joke. But so far, it was no joke. She glanced into the back of the truck watching Brody with Alex, smiling softly at the two boys. Her ex couldn't do anything to hurt them anymore and Brody had done that for her. She didn't quite know how, but she never wanted to know either. Just be grateful to him and spend the rest of her life giving him the family he deserved.

"All set," she said quietly, reaching over and slipping her hand into his as he started off down the driveway. Leaving her house felt weird, the fact that she was leaving virtually everything in it was also strange for her. Of course personal belongings would go, and Alex's things because he was attached to most of it still, but everything else was new and she wasn't sure how she felt about it. Good, perhaps. Leaving her past where it belonged, behind her, and going toward her future. She was perfectly happy to just let go of everything.

Not her car though, although she was officially too big to feel comfortable driving and had taken to just asking Brody for rides, and occasionally Glory if Brody was busy. He would always make time for her but she didn't like to ask him to. Just because he would and could didn't mean he had to and sometimes she had to get sneaky about it all. Especially with their daughter on the way. He needed to enjoy his last few weeks of relative freedom, no matter how ready he was to be a father everything was going to change and she didn't want him to take one second of it for granted.

"Probably a good thing. I'd like to look around before I'm entertaining people," Adi said quietly when he mentioned that his parents weren't there yet. She was excited about the house, although not sure how living next door to his brother was going to go. It had been one thing to be fifteen minutes away but right next door seemed like it was going to be a new ball game. She hoped Brock had enough sense to mind his manners though. Having built the house or not, he wasn't going to be able to come in whenever he wanted just to visit with Brody. Not with two young children who needed a routine so Adi could keep up her writing.

Adi took Brody's hand, sliding out of the truck with one hand on her stomach. While she was normally supermodel thin, and only because she ate well and apparently had the worlds best metabolism, she looked like she had a beach ball stuck under her shirt. She'd expected a big baby, Brody and Brock were both big guys. She was five-foot-eight but height hardly mattered in that situation. Adi itched to reach out and take Alex from Brody but it had officially reached the point where carrying her son was too uncomfortable, for them both, and she knew better. Instead turning her attention to the house. It was beautiful, although she'd expected nothing less from the twins, and she eagerly headed up the front steps to head inside. Waiting for Brody and walking along with him, glancing around at it all.

She hadn't thought the first thing she would see in her home was Ash on her counter, Brock in front of her, but somehow the image hardly surprised her. She shook her head with a soft sigh and walked over to the fridge to see what they'd already managed to stock. "Neither of you change then. See if anyone gets confused," she mused and glanced back over her shoulder, "trust me no one's getting confused. Even Alex knows who is who by now." She smiled and shot Brock a look. NO doubt her son would know who he was now, although he'd struggled with it once upon a time.

The idea of Ash being pregnant with twins was kind of mind blowing but it shouldn’t have been much of a shock considering he was in fact a twin but Adi was pregnant with just one but then again she was a slightly different case, her baby had been fertilized in a lab while Brock hadn’t. Nonetheless, he was barely okay with having one baby and now he was having two, things were certainly going to change around here. He had no idea if Ash would want more kids or not, it hadn’t really been discussed although they hadn’t really discussed the first one, she’d mentioned it and initiated sex, he just went with it. Not that he was totally against the idea; he just would never admit out loud he was pretty sure he was going to be a lousy father. He wasn’t Brody, he wasn’t a good guy, he didn’t know how to be kind or understanding.

It was strange from the outside looking in when someone would see Ash on the countertop, Brock sliding between her legs and kissing her, acting like they were very much in love, which they were. It was not something neither of them would probably admit easily to, if someone asked him he’d grunt and shrug or say something about he could deal with her but to say he loved her? Maybe to her and her only but not really to anyone else. The guys at work liked to try and tease but you didn’t really want to cross Brock, it just wasn’t advisable. They’d certainly came a long way from the days of her stopping by late at his construction site for a quickie. He’d definitely also changed quite a bit in the last year, not working super late anymore so he was coming home to make sure the animals were taken care of and dinner was ready by the time Ash came home. The other guys certainly loved it but Friday night bar nights were nonexistent now as Brock was turning into as much of a family man as he possibly would ever be.

He stopped in mid kiss, without breaking it to see Brody with Alex popping into the house and with one last quick peck he stepped back, moving towards the stove when he saw what Brody was wearing and narrowed his eyes. You go change, your house is closer. He motioned towards the fact they were actually in his house. He glanced at Adi, she looked like she was due any second but if he remembered right she still had a few weeks. Poor Ash was going to be double that size. He stirred the pot as Adi checked in the fridge, Brody had already stocked it with whatever it was Adi preferred they eat and of course Brock had helped himself to various things as he was making the food. He looked over at Adi as she poked fun of the outfits and caught the look she shot him and he shrugged. What?! How was I supposed to know? Besides, Alex and I are good now, so whatever. He added with a huff, looking at Ash. Long time ago, before bonehead told anyone we were twins Adi came up to see Brody and got me instead at the feed store. Alex was with her. He shrugged it off, shooting Brody a look of disapproval.

Speaking of boneheads, come here, I wanna show you something. Of course Brody knew Brock was talking to him, walking over and setting Alex down. Brock moved the boiling pot back and motioned to the stove top. Touch the stove top. He put a hand on his hip and waited while Brody hesitated but then fully trusting his brother just put his hand where the pot was, looking surprised. It’s not hot. Brock nodded and slide the pot back. Science. Only gets hot when the pot or pan is on it, I don't know something about magnets but now you don’t have to worry about little hands burning. He felt that look from Brody, the look that said Brock was going soft in his old age. Now go away you are in my space.

Ash rarely uttered the word love to Brock. Or anyone for that matter. She would rather not ruin the word but overusing it. She'd said to to him a few times, because he'd needed to hear it. He'd needed to know that she loved him, that she wanted to be with him. He'd needed to know before she left on some dangerous mission that she would come back to him. The hospital when he'd nearly died had been rough on her, she'd been with him every moment she wasn't working and she'd worked as hard as she could in the meantime because she couldn't sit there and watch him, never knowing if he would wake up. She and Brody had even fought over it all, but she hadn't been able to stay away from Brock. Even by then he'd made her feel more than anyone else had in years.

He moved away and she leaned forward, her hands on the edge of the counter, stomach uncomfortably squished. She didn't care though, she wasn't going to admit it until she had to. They knew she was pregnant, they didn't know it was twins. "Hey," she said to Alex, waving with one hand. He waved back although he was playing shy at the moment. She loved kids and Alex was not at all an exception to the rule. he was an adorable kid and Ash could only hope that her children would end up half as well mannered as he was at three. Not that her kids had much hope with her and Brock for parents. They were both known to be troublemakers, rude as hell, and just general assholes. Their children were definitely going to get some pretty strong personalities. Ash would make no apologies for it though.

"Gee Brock, you gonna re-do our place too?" She said sarcastically. Then it dawned on her that he probably had some actual plan to baby proof their house. Brock was a planner. "Just to make this clear, I'm joking. Please do not put the house under construction. If you do, I'm definitely moving out." No way in hell she was going to live among chaos for months and months while he did whatever it was that he might have been thinking about doing. She heard a stifled laugh from Adira and shot her a hard look. "Don't make fun of me. I have no desire to deal with chaos at work and then have to deal with it at home too." Not that she was going to be dealing with much at work anymore. As much as she hated it she might end up needing some chaos to keep her amused.

He was annoyed that his brother was wearing the same clothes as he was but honestly it didn’t surprise him one bit. It happen more often than not but when they lived together he would simply just go change or they would play rock, paper, scissors over it and loser had to change. With them living apart they didn’t have that option, of course they sort of did now. It was going to be nice to live next door to him, they would still ride to work together, if he didn’t get out and moving fast enough he was sure Brock would just come right in and make him hurry along. At some point they were going to have to have a discussion about privacy and boundaries but Brody would wait and see how everything fell into place before he told his brother he had to back off. Plus, Brock was about to have his own kid soon too and it would keep him over there, not over here anyway.

He went over to see exactly what it was the Brock wanted to show him, thoroughly impressed that Brock actually understood about little kids, more impressed he’d though to be safe for kids. He shot him a look and quickly got told to go away, rolling his eyes. His brother was a really nice guy, he just didn’t show it the way it should be shown, Brock didn’t know how to show emotion, it’s why he was perfect for Ash. He had no idea how they were going to be kind and understanding with a child but he had no doubt that they would figure it out, Brock and Ash were smart and knew how to work not only together but they knew how to get a job done. Now it just meant they had to get a job such as parenting figured out.

He looked at Ash and then Brock who had his head down, quiet as he was working on the stew, not saying a word and Brody tossed his head back laughing. Oh… Ash, it’s so cute that you pretend you still don’t know my brother. Brock gave a grunt but said nothing. Brody stepped up beside Brock and muttered under his breath. Let me guess, workshop is crowded with projects? Once more all you got was a grunt from Brock before he looked up and casted an innocent look at Ash and then Brody. Brody just laughed. Don’t worry Ash, I hear our couch is extra comfy if you need it. He laughed, clapping Brock on the shoulder before returning to Alex and Adi. Would you two like to take a tour until Glory and the parents get here? He bent over to pick up Alex and then looked to Adi. A quick one, then you need to get off your feet. He put his free hand on her shoulder lightly.

so keep up the laughter and rambling on.
Adi was definitely impressed, and she also was too kind not to admit it. "I'm glad that you did all of this. Every detail thought of," she spoke with a smile as she unscrewed the top on a bottle of sparkling water. She hadn't been sure about Brock building them a house, or too happy about moving out of her house but she'd come around. Leaving her furniture behind was difficult. Going from her shitty ex-husband to her first taste of freedom to falling for Brody. They'd moved so quickly on everything, although the doctors warning her that her time to conceive if she wanted another child was limited had really given them a huge push. They'd overcome everything, and Brody had saved her and Alex from Andrew. She had been so scared for so long, waiting on the other shoe to drop and Brody's flaw to come to light. But she was convinced now, she was safe from anything bad ever happening because of him. Brock wasn't so evil himself, once you got over the gruff nature.

"The couch might be comfortable but no doubt she's going to want a bed," Adira chimed in with a laugh Ash threw up her hands, "if he's going to be doing construction I'll just go back to my house. It might be old but at least it's not in pieces." Adira would believe it when she saw it. Ash and Brock had been joined at the hip for months. Definitely before Ash got pregnant. For Ash to take off and move out would be impressive. Not that Brock couldn't manage it by driving someone nuts.

"Are you sure you want to do two tours? Surely your parents will want to look around as well." Adi was still nervous to meet the parents, but there wasn't much that could be done at that point. Pregnant and only a few weeks out from giving birth to the first child that would mark the next generation of Hemmingways. She and Brody were both thrilled, to say the least, and Alex was pretty happy. But at least Alex had a solid father figure, and though the little boy had struggled at first with not talking to Andrew, he'd come around. "Also, don't you tell me I have to get off my feet. My feet have that covered," she rested one hand on her stomach and shook her head. "I cannot wait to be able to hold this kid."

Brock was not a nice guy, he was an asshole and hated everyone, people annoyed him with their stupid, complicated emotions and head games. He’d managed to be able to handle Ash and his brother, he could handle Adi but who couldn’t? Then he’d kind of grown slightly fond of Alex, he had no doubt he was going to be attached to Brody’s baby… he was quickly realizing he was so deep into relationships of all types that he hadn’t even seen how much he’d been changing. It was weird to think he’d told Ash he loved her, even weirder that he was kind of looking forward to having a pair of little kids running around his house. How the fuck did he get here?

He took a glance at Brody and grunted as he teased him about the construction of his own house, he wasn’t about to tell her how much was already done and waiting to be moved up into the house already. Then of course Brody had to mention it and he grunted again, not wanting to even look up from the stew, knowing all too well that Ash wasn’t going to be happy about it. It was part of the reason why he hadn’t brought anything up yet or even mentioned working on the house but of course, it had come up tonight. This is why he didn’t talk to people, it ruined his plans. He would simply wait until Ash was gone to work before he simply brought his team into his house and set them to work. He wouldn’t dare do it with Ash about anyway, although it did remind him of the random guns she’d hidden throughout the house.

He looked up when she said she was going back to her place and without warning he laughed. That’s what you think. He ducked his head down into the pot as he hid his laughter before looking up at her with a sigh. Your house has always been in pieces but hey, if you want to go there then I highly suggest doing so tomorrow and stay gone for about a week, just don’t expect me to visit you. We will see how long that lasts. Ash with no sex? With no one there to pull her in tight when she began to quiver at night from her nightmares? Oh and make sure you take your guns out of hiding too, I don’t want the guys finding them, you know how they like playing with things.

"Fine. Hecuba and Ernie and I will all go to my house. See how much you like that." Ash replied, not even trying to hide the challenge in her voice. She wouldn't be overjoyed about it but she was stubborn enough to do it. "And yes, I'm taking the dog. I refuse to let him get squashed because one of your morons wasn't paying attention." Besides, it was only going to be for a week right? She wasn't working nearly as much so she could totally handle being in charge of the animals. She hoped at least.

Ash was just about to say something else when she heard the door open and Glory calling through the house. She sighed and wrinkled her nose, glancing over at Brock. She wanted to just go home, watch something on TV with him, have sex, go to bed. She didn't like people, even with Austin and Hennessy she could only take so much time with them before she was practically running to get away from them. It was worse with Brock's little sister and now she had to deal with his parents as well? She wasn't the type of girl that parents liked.

Once upon a time she'd been easy going, sweet, the sort of girl who could keep up with the boys but also rein in the attitude for parents. Now though, she was just the type of girl who would put on a dress and heels so she could go undercover and take out a bad guy. She didn't care who saw what, proven by taking off her shirt in front of Austin the night before, and she didn't apologize for who she was. Brock's parents were surely sued to him but that didn't mean they had to appreciate the fact Ash was similar, if not possibly actually worse.

to think you would get me to the altar
Barn, shopping, and just generally driving around doing whatever seemed like fun, Glory'd had a great day and having her parents there only made it better. When they finally finished up she stopped at Brock's house to drop her stuff off in her room and then they walked next door to the house that Brock and Brody had put up for Brody and Adi to live in. Glory reached the door and didn't even hesitate to just walk in, they were expected that evening after all. She wasn't quite as bad as Brock, she wouldn't dare walk in whenever after that evening, but of course Brock thought he owned the world or something like that. "Hey, hey," she called as she closed the door behind her parents and then led the way down the hallway into the kitchen.

"Hey Alex!" She said and squatted down, holding out her arms as the little boy ran over. She'd baby sat him enough that they'd gotten close and she picked him up, spinning him around. "How is my favorite nephew?" She asked settling her arms under him to hold him up as she smiled over at him. Alex was comfortable, until he realized there were two new people he didn't recognize and then the little boy clammed up and moved to hide against Glory. "Oh! That's right!" She said and shifted. "Alex, these are my parents," she said calmly, not sure if they were going to be introducing them as grandparents or not right off the bat. She glanced over her shoulder to Brody.

"What do I tell him?" She mouthed, Adi shrugged her shoulders but the other woman was already moving forward. "Hello," of course Adira would sound confident and relaxed. Even if she wasn't, Adira always seemed to be able to pull together a professional appearance. "I'm Adira, Alex's mother." Also the mother of their first official grandchild, but her body would speak volumes about that without her saying anything. "Adi's a writer, so I babysit so she can get work done. Plus she has horses too!" Glory chipped in cheerfully.

You make me better than I was before
Thank God I'm yours
Brody had no doubt that Brock had in fact nailed every detail, the man knew what he was doing when it came to building houses. He didn’t just build a house that anyone could live in, he built a house for the family to live in, tailoring it to match what that family had. Some families didn’t have any kids, some were young families with potential for kids, some were elderly, whoever they were; he took the time to make sure each house was matched for that family not just for that moment but for their life. Brody didn’t say it but he appreciated everything they’d done for the house, Brock had handled most of it but that’s how Brock handled things. Brock had always strived for perfection in everything he did, he was quiet but he had a lot of pride behind it.

He paid no mind to Ash and Brock bickering, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Easy there Ash, I’m one of those morons and I promise, I will make sure it’s clean so you don’t have to leave. Brock, slow down and keep in mind, she’s pregnant and crazy, you really want that separated from you? Work it out, both of you. He shot them both a look. No one is going anywhere and Ash, seriously, I love you but sell your house; you’re having a baby, not a puppy. A baby can’t go back and forth it isn’t good for them. He didn’t like butting in but he wasn’t about to let Brock walk all over Ash and willingly push her away, they had a weird relationship but they were going to have to figure it out because that baby was coming whether they understood that or not. That’s all well and good Brody but what do we do about the drywall dust, paint fumes or her lifting shi- stuff, she shouldn’t be lifting? Brock shot back a little too quickly, making Brody pause.

Was that what this was about? Brock was trying to push her out of the house because he was worried about her during the construction? It made Brody smile knowingly, looking from Brock to Ash. You know the door is open. He said to them both. Brock and Brody were so different. Brody would have just come out and said something while Brock didn’t, he wouldn’t and he couldn’t. Brody understood it, maybe no one else would but he got the message and quickly dropped it, offering to give Adi and Alex a quick tour but Adi was right, she needed to rest. He was just about to offer her a chair when he heard the door opened and Glory’s voice before she appeared around the corner. He was used to people just walking in the house, it’s how they’d always grown up, but Brock was definitely known to just walk in on people without a care in the world.

He smiled bright at his parents, hurrying around everyone to give his mom a huge bear hug, lifting her slightly before putting her down. Hey pretty momma! He said cheerfully before moving to his dad, giving him a big hug. Hey Pops! He stepped back as Glory came up to introduce them to Alex, glancing at Adi, it was up to her what she wanted to call his parents but she shrugged and he just grinned, looking back to his parents as he stepped around beside Adira as she introduced herself. His parents smiling warmly. Lovely to meet you sweetheart! We have heard so much about you both! Leonie looked from Alex to Adi and then Brody before her eyes went to Adi’s large belly and then back to Adi. You look beautiful dear, I’m so excited, come here, I need a hug! Leonie stepped to Adi, wrapping her into a hug and rubbed her back gently before stepping back.

Craig stepped forward to Alex, holding a hand out with a grin. Nice to meet you son, just call me G-Pops. Sounds hip right? Brody and Brock both crack a laugh, Brody shaking his head and rubbed Aid’s shoulder as his mom stepped away and turned to Glory and Alex. I know how much Brock loves when I get weepy but I am so glad you are all here. Her eyes rolled through the group with a warm smile. You are all so different but I’m so proud of how amazing and big this family has gotten. All my kids under one roof, my grandkids.. He let her eyes fall to Alex and Adi’s belly then went to Ash. Ash, Adira; I can’t wait to get to know you both but if my sons love you then I know, you’re going to fit in perfectly. Brody smiled down at Adi. I do. Then eyes went to Brock who had his head down into the stew and looked up when it got quiet and found his parents staring at him. He gave a grunt and looked down at the food. Food’s ready.

so keep up the laughter and rambling on.
Adi had no plans on getting involved in Brock and Ashlee's shit. They were adults and while she would eventually have to say something if she thought it was hurting their child, she wasn't there yet. In fact, the two spending a week apart didn't even sound like the worst idea in the world to her. They obviously had feelings between them but they were difficult people and Ash seemed to be more on edge than ever now that she was pregnant. Adi certainly wanted no part of that and she was saved from having to chide Brody on butting in when she heard the front door open and Glory's voice. She didn't mind people walking in now but she had every intention of making sure this was the first and last time it happened for a good long while. She wouldn't have it once their daughter was born, mostly because she wasn't going to have the wherewithal not to destroy someone if they woke up the baby while she was trying to relax for five seconds.

She hung back as Brody rushed over to greet his parents and only when she saw the minor look of panic on Glory's face did she rush forwards to fill the space. This was all so different than when she'd been with Andrew. She'd met his parents but it had been brief and uncomfortable. With Adira being so much younger they'd been pretty unhappy about the situation and made it known plenty well. Adira got none of that with Brody's parents who were immediately open and warm with both Alex and her. "It's lovely to meet you as well," she replied to his father with a bright smile. Forever practiced at setting aside anything she was feeling, including her sore feet, to play the role of hostess. If being married to Andrew had done anything for her, it was certainly that. She could keep herself poised in any situation she ran into.

Adi laughed softly when his mother said she needed a hug and stepped forward, keeping herself as relaxed as she could, wondering if even her own parents had been so warm. It was doubtful, they'd always had their issues to deal with, but she still loved her mother. Her father was a piece of shit who she didn't tend to have any respect for but of course that was a different story. "Can I get you anything to drink?" Adi asked as they pulled away, glancing over to Alex who was still trying to hide against Glory even as Brody's father spoke to him. "He will warm up quickly, He's just a little shy to start." Although, he'd become pretty fond of Brody pretty quickly.

Hearing Brock state that the food was ready Adira glanced over her shoulder to him and shook her head slightly. He was fooling no one, but she would let him play his game. "I guess we'll have to take a tour of the house after dinner. Why don't you guys go take a seat and Ash and I can gather drink orders." She shot Ash a hard look before the other woman could protest. She might be quiet and shy most of the time but she was not above putting her foot down here and there, and it was enough to keep Ash in check. "You don't argue either," she said glancing up to Brody with a smile, "just go get Alex settled in. So! What does everyone want to drink?"

there goes my hero

watch him as he goes
Of course he was trying to push Ash out of his house, temporarily of course but why would he want her there? She would get in the way, probably bitch the whole time and even try to put her two cents in on what he was doing. He didn’t need her help, he knew how to do construction on a house while someone was actually living it in. He didn’t like to but he could still do it and he would be damned if he had to tolerate it in his own home. At least that’s what he was trying to rationalize in his head but the real truth was, he didn’t know how harmful the fumes or debris that he couldn’t keep cleaned up, would affect her or the twins. The last thing he wanted was for her to complain about not feeling well at his expense.

He ignored the lecture from Brody just the same though, adding the last of the vegetables into the large pot, he’d made more than enough for everyone but it was an old family stew recipe and he wanted some for lunches the next day. He let the rest of them meet his parents when they came in, ignoring the lovefest they seemed to be having with his parents. Brody had always been the golden boy of the two of them, he would prefer it stay that way too, he wasn’t about to give out hugs to just anyone and he certainly wasn’t about to do it in front of everyone right now, they’d never let him live it down. No, this is the point where Brock shut down, closed himself off and enjoyed watching from the background. Even if it was his own family, he didn’t enjoy large gatherings.

He wanted to puke when everyone got sentimental, tasting a bit of the stew before adding more spices and then heard silence, looking up as everyone was looking at him. Did he love Ash? He gave a grunt and went back to the food, stating it was ready blankly. He felt no need to be so sickly and admit his feelings to anyone but Ash and she already knew he had feelings for her, she knew he was in love with her but he wasn’t always one to just say it. He showed it in his own way, just like he clearly loved Alex, Brody, Adi, even Glory. He made sure the house was something Adi and Brody were proud of and that it was as safe as possible for Alex. He wanted to make sure his own house was primed and ready for twins and something Ash could eventually call her home rather than split with having her own home but it wasn’t something he was willing to even bring up. Apparently Glory is in love too, I don’t see your true love here, let me guess, he’s a frog? No wait… he’s invisible. He grumbled as he stirred the pot once more.

He eyed Adi as she asked about drinks and then looked at Glory as he shut off the burners on the stove. Glory, make yourself useful and grab some bowls for the table. Mom, Dad, go sit. he grabbed some pot holders and gripped the large pot, lifting it from the stove and walking to the dining room and setting it in the center.
